7 Reasons you need to drink hydrogen water every day!

What is hydrogen?

Hydrogen is a gas and is the lightest element on the periodic table. It fuels the sun which converts hundreds of million tons of hydrogen into helium every second. Take two hydrogen atoms and attach them to oxygen and it makes water. We need hydrogen to live.

There are different types of hydrogen and today I will be writing about molecular hydrogen or diatomic hydrogen known as H2.

Hydrogen reduces oxidative stress and inflammation, which we know is the corner stone of almost every illness.

Our body is made up of carbon and hydrogen chains. So it makes sense that hydrogen is a huge building block and critical for life.

Why we need hydrogen.

To understand hydrogen we have to start with the gut or microbiome. The gut and hydrogen are interconnected. When you eat food it gets broken down in the gut into smaller particles that then fuel our bodies. If we have unhealthy bacteria in our gut this process gets compromised. We need the proper bacteria in the gut to maintain a healthy body We have a hydrogen generator built into our gut. When we ferment food we create hydrogen. You know, farts!

Many people choose to take probiotics to help their gut repair, but unless you know what exact strain of bacteria you need or if you are not properly hydrated (most people are dehydrated) probiotics do not work.

Hydrogen is necessary in regulating oxidation in the body and there are over 200 bio molecules that are regulated by hydrogen gas being present in the body. Many enzymes actions are modulated by hydrogen.

Hydrogen is a single modulator, this means it gives direction to systems in the body to function properly. If hydrogen is not there then issues start to arise in the body, therefore leading to disease.

Hydrogen and the gut.

In today’s society many people have gut issues due to the diet they eat, pesticides in the air and on food they consume, antibiotics they have taken or stress they endure.  Remember immune function is tied to gut health. The bacteria in your gut is what helps you to fight viruses, and illness. We see gut dysbiosis all the time in people who have pain, inflammation disorders, food sensitivities, acid reflux, indigestion, heartburn,  constipation, fatigue,  headaches, diarrhea, sleep issues, skin irritation, psoriasis, eczema, autoimmune conditions, autism or high levels of stress.

When our gut is impaired we get oxidative stress and inflammation in the body.

Why drink hydrogen water?

As soon as you drink hydrogen water and it hits the stomach is stimulates gastric ghrelin. Ghrelin helps with weight loss and it regulates the brain. When you bring hydrogen gas into the stomach it signals ghrelin to the hippocampus, hypothalamus and brain stem and it increases brain function and cognitive function. This is incredible for people with neurological issues like dementia, autism, bi-polar,  Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s.

Hydrogen water stimulates anaerobic microflora (friendly bacteria) this helps to heal the gut.

Hydrogen is also known to help the mitochondrial respiratory chain in the body. This is where your energy is produced in the body. Who doesn’t want more energy?

Hydrogen also reduces the production of hydroxyl radicals, which are cell damaging.

Hydrogen water and cancer.

Hydrogen water turns on apoptosis which is turned off when you have cancer. Apoptosis is a natural process in the body where cells destroy themselves if they are duplicating themselves incorrectly.  When you have cancer, somehow apoptosis is turned off and doesn’t destroy the cancer cells. Somehow when hydrogen gets in the body it enhances and benefits apoptosis so they cells can destroy themselves. Combined with chemotherapy, hydrogen water can give people more hope in fighting the disease.

Hydrogen water and diabetes.

Hydrogen water improves lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes. A recent studies revealed that diabetes patients who drank hydrogen water had a normal blood glucose or oral glucose tolerance test within weeks..  There is also a study that reveals that there is a 15.5% reduction of cholesterol in the body when drinking hydrogen water daily.

Hydrogen water and athletes.

There was a double blind study done showing soccer players that drank hydrogen water half and hour before a game experienced no fatigue after a game.

The benefits of drinking hydrogen water are:

  • Reducing oxidative stress and inflammation
  • Stimulating ghrelin production
  • Improving gut function
  • Improving cognitive function
  • Enhancing cellular function
  • Stimulating mitochondrial function
  • Preventing fatigue
