The health benefits of red light therapy are many; increase circulation, decrease inflammation, and treat skin conditions.

So what is red light therapy?  Red light therapy is a treatment that helps skin, muscle tissues and other parts of your body heal. It exposes you to low levels of red and near- infrared light. Infrared light is a type of energy your eyes can’t see, but your body can feel as heat. It helps your cells to do their jobs better! It does this by knocking out stuck nitric oxide in the mitochondria of the cell so oxygen can get back in there and increase ATP production = more energy for the cell to do it’s job. When the mitochondria gets full of nitric oxide which happens with toxins and foods we eat, we have less energy. We also get systemic inflammation. This causes pain and other illnesses. Similarly if you have pain or a chronic condition when you used red light therapy on your naked body or area that you are experiencing pain with it helps get oxygen to the cells of that area so it can heal.

How does red light therapy work?

With red light therapy, you expose your skin to a lamp, device, or laser with a red light. A part of your cells called mitochondria, sometimes called the “power generators” of your cells, soak it up and make more energy. Some experts think this helps cells repair themselves and become healthier. This spurs healing in skin and muscle tissue. Red light therapy uses very low levels of heat and doesn’t hurt or burn the skin. It’s not the same type of light used in tanning booths, and it doesn’t expose your skin to damaging UV rays.

Here is a link to many medical studies that have been done on red light therapy

How long does it take to feel a difference?

Most people see a difference right away, especially those using if for muscle soreness and joint issues. Some people it will take at least 8 weeks of using it daily to see the results. Remember the way it works is by helping your cells so you still want to eat healthy, stay hydrated and lower stress so that the body can heal.

What are the risks?

If you do too much red light therapy it can cause the opposite effects on your cells. Just stick to less than 15 minutes per area per day and you’ll be good. There are no know side effects after over 3,000 clinical studies have been done on using red light therapy for different health conditions. And of course top athletes, and models use red light therapy for the many health benefits it offers. Reduce pain, enhance collagen, reduces wrinkles and fine lines.

I have done a lot of research on red light therapy as it was recommended to me by my doctor. Red Therapy Co is a great company and I love their many options for red light. Plus, they take into consideration that many red light therapy machines emit high EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) which is not good for the body. They have built in a type of faraday cage to lower the EMFs to almost nothing on their RedRush 400 Pulse Red Light. This is the model that I have. You can check it out here and use coupon code shirleyplant to save at checkout

  1. I have never used red light therapy but it surely sounds very interesting. For which condition are you using it for?
